Traumatic Week? Odyssey House Offers Free Help Saturday

Ending what likely has been a very stressful week for many, the mental health professionals at Odyssey House in Salt Lake City are offering free counseling sessions Saturday the 7th of October.

Kristy Johnson is one of the licensed clinical social workers at Odyssey House’s Mental Health Outpatient facility. She says even indirect contact with events like the Las Vegas mass shooting, Mexico City earthquake and the many hurricanes is traumatizing people.

“You know we all feel so powerless as a community to have an impact on these kinds of things but we knew this is something we could do, says Johnson. "We can help people manage how their feelings and thoughts kind of rise up in them, we can help with that.”

Johnson says it’s important to recognize where the stress tends to settle in our bodies and minds and then use tools to work it out. The free clinic runs Saturday, Oct. 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Odyssey House’s 2100 South location only.
