Drug Trial

Drug companies are working to settle a suit they brought against the South African government over the price of drugs to treat AIDS and other conditions. South African law permits the importation of cheaper drugs and generic versions of patented drugs; the companies say this threatens their patent rights. NPR's Jon Hamilton reports that on the first day of the trial, the drug companies asked for and were granted a delay to give them time to work out a deal.
