7/26/06: Road Trips

By Doug Fabrizio

Salt Lake City, UT – 50 years ago, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the Federal-Aid Highway Act, creating one of the greatest public works projects in history -- and a significant development in American culture. Whether your journey takes you on the highway, or down one of the countless side-roads these United States has to offer, the appeal of the open road is undeniable. Today on RadioWest, we'll hear about some unforgettable trips, and ask you to share some of your stories of the road.

What's a good road trip without the right music? Visit iTunes for the perfect adventure CD as suggested by RadioWest guests and friends:
  • Hal Cannon of the Western Folklife Center suggests a blend of folk and country with a dash of rock to get you across the Utah and Nevada desert. Click here for Hal's mix.
  • If you're looking for something a little edgier, try the roadtrip playlist compiled by KUER's own Tristin Tabish (host of KRCL's Afternoon Delight on Saturdays). She took into account each song's "sing-along value, ability to invoke good memories and/or introspection, traveling theme and timing." (Note: Some of the songs contain explicit lyrics). Click here for Tristin's list.
