Sister Sparrow & the Dirty Birds plays at Snowbasin Resort on Sunday, July 17th.

Betsy Burton says, “Yaa Gyasi’s debut novel Homegoing (Knopf) was a publishing sensation before it even came out last month, vied for by ten publishers … and the recipient of rave reviews.”  Following two sisters and their descendants, the book charts black history in West Africa and the U.S.

Then, Austen Diamond thinks it’s high time we all escape the hot weather and head into the mountains for a few outdoor concerts.

First up, it’s Snowbird Resort’s Cool Air Concert Series.  Buckwheat Zydeco is headlining on Saturday, July 16th.

Reggae legends The Wailers are coming to the Park City Summer Concert Series at Canyon Village on Saturday, July 16th.

Snowbasin Resort puts on summer concerts, too—The Blues, Brews, and BBQ Concert Series.  Sister Sparrow & the Dirty Birds will play on Sunday, July 17th.

Music heard on this Books & Beats:

1: “Crawfish Song” by Buckwheat Zydeco

2: “Get Up, Stand Up” by The Wailers
