Vail Resorts CEO Stokes Park City Mountain Resort Conflict

Park City Mountain Resort

The dispute over Park City Mountain Resort’s lease of land from Talisker Land Holdings, LLC has left the boardroom and spilled into the public domain.

Vail Resorts is now representing Talisker in the dispute after signing a long-term deal to operate the Talisker owned Canyons resort. Talisker has also offered to lease the land where Park City Mountain Resort now sits to Vail if and when 3rd district court judge Ryan Harris decides that PCMR failed to renew their lease with Talisker before it expired in 2011.

Vail Resort CEO Robert Katz recently sent a 5-page letter to PCMR’s CEO John Cumming that he also circulated to local media. In the letter Katz says he has continued to try and reach a solution that works for everyone involved, only to be met by a cold shoulder from PCMR.

In an email sent to KUER PCMR’s CEO John Cumming wrote,

“We have repeatedly made it clear to Vail that PCMR is interested in exploring all possible solutions that will preserve the independence of PCMR as the nation’s premier family ski resort. What we won’t agree to is a Vail takeover….People should not be swayed by Rob’s attempt to try the merits of this case in the press.”

Arguments in the court case begin next week.
