Outgoing Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker Looks Back on Eight Years in Office

Whittney Evans
Outgoing Mayor Ralph Becker talks to campaign supporters at his Salt Lake City home.

In the last eight years, Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker has led the charge for a more sustainable, livable capital city. He helped pass a non-discrimination ordinance in Salt Lake City, the first of its kind in the state. And his leadership in eliminating chronic veteran homelessness and putting streetcars back in operation has garnered national attention.  KUER's Whittney Evans spoke to Becker one last time before he leaves office on January 4th.

Whittney Evans grew up southern Ohio and has worked in public radio since 2005. She has a communications degree from Morehead State University in Morehead, Kentucky, where she learned the ropes of reporting, producing and hosting. Whittney moved to Utah in 2009 where she became a reporter, producer and morning host at KCPW. Her reporting ranges from the hyper-local issues affecting Salt Lake City residents, to state-wide issues of national interest. Outside of work, she enjoys playing the guitar and getting to know the breathtaking landscape of the Mountain West.
