Utah Researcher Wins MacArthur Fellowship

Susan Mango

By Dan Bammes

Salt Lake City, UT – They're called "genius grants," although the MacArthur Foundation doesn't like that term. Every year, it provides fellowships for about 25 people based on their creativity and their potential to make influential contributions to American society. They come with 500-thousand dollars with no strings attached. This year, the recipients include Susan Mango, is a research biologist at the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City. Mango spends much of her time studying a tiny species of roundworm called C. elegans. It's basic science -- and something she says can be wonderfully creative.
