Leigh von der Esch Retires as Managing Director of Utah Office of Tourism

The managing director of the Utah Office of Tourism, Leigh von der Esch is retiring after more the 28 years of public service. Spencer Eccles, executive director of the Governor's Office of Economic Development says von der Esch's dedication to promoting Utah is unmatched.

"At the core of Leigh von der Esch you have a deep commitment and a deep passion for the state and for promoting the state and all of its grandeur. And all of the incredible characteristics, the diversity of the culture and of the landscape," said Eccles.

He says von der Esch created a team that is ready to move forward without her. He says the deputy director of the Tourism office, David Williams, will serve as the acting director of the Office of Tourism and Film during the transition. Tracie Cayford, a deputy director in the Office will ensure continuity of operations.

In a press release Thursday, Governor Gary Herbert said “Leigh has done much to increase Utah’s recognition as a global business destination by launching and promoting the Utah Life Elevated ® brand and increasing the economic contribution of Utah’s $6.8 billion tourism industry,” The Governor added  “During her many years of service she has led both the Utah Film Commission and the Office of Tourism and has been instrumental in making Utah a first choice destination.”
