Democrat Charlene Albarran to Challenge Congressman Chris Stewart
Utah Congressman Chris Stewart will be defending his 2nd District seat against Democrat Charlene Albarran. Both candidates ran uncontested at their party’s nominating conventions on Saturday.
Republican Chris Stewart is running for his third term as Congressman for Utah’s 2nd District. As a member of House appropriations and intelligence committees, Stewart says he’s followed through on his promise to cut the national debt and to protect the US from foreign threats to security. Stewart acknowledged that many Utah Republicans are frustrated by national politics.
“Remember, we saw the miracle of the creation of the Constitution,” Stewart said. “We got through the Civil War. We defeated tyranny in World War II. My heck, we got through Jimmy Carter. We can get through this.”
Democratic challenger Charlene Albarran says she wants to unite Utahns of all types.
“I’m running because I know I can do a better job in the House than Congressman Stewart.” Albarran said.
The Park City businesswoman outlined a platform distinctly different from Stewart’s. It includes priorities like early childhood education, raising the minimum wage, equal pay for women, parental leave, climate change, and medical care and job opportunities for those in the military.
