An estimated 1,000 National Park Service employees have been fired so far. That includes at least 20 rangers, by one unofficial count, from Utah’s popular and busy national parks.

As the end of the session draws near, Utah Gov. Spencer Cox, House Speaker Mike Schultz and Senate President Stuart Adams announced a wage increase of $278 million for teachers, support staff and district staff.

“The perceptions around the value of higher education are misaligned with the realities of the value,” said Utah Commissioner of Higher Education Geoffrey Landward.

The Pac-12 and the schools that will soon join it, including Utah State, filed the lawsuit last year, claiming the poaching clause it agreed to when it signed a scheduling agreement for its football teams for last season was invalid.

Chief Justice Matthew B. Durrant’s letter is part of a larger movement opposing legislative bills that would change Utah’s courts. A letter was also sent by 900 lawyers, and the Utah State Bar Association stands in formal opposition, as well.
