The Wednesday night shooting took place in the parking lot of the Rose Park 5th Ward meetinghouse of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 660 N. Redwood Road. Dozens of people were attending a funeral inside at the time.

Mayor Erin Mendenhall said Salt Lake City has made “tremendous progress” on its safety plan, but she’s disappointed that the Legislature hasn’t acted on more recommendations.

Salt Lake City Police confirmed the death Sunday. The suspect being held in custody has been identified as Arturo Gamboa.
