The latest Education Recovery Scorecard places Utah students more than half a grade level behind in reading in the spring of 2024 compared to achievement levels before the pandemic.

While Utah largely outperformed national averages, fourth and eighth grade math and reading scores still haven’t returned to pre-pandemic levels.

For the first time, researchers are getting a clear picture of how snowflakes fall through the winter wind, thanks to new technology developed and tested in Utah.

“There were a lot of districts that lost a substantial amount of ground. And there were actually a couple of districts that improved over the pandemic,” said Tom Kane, faculty director of Harvard’s Center for Education Policy and Research.
