Utah has 890,637 active Republican voters. On Super Tuesday, the most recent tally shows only 84,942 votes cast in the caucus presidential poll.

Utah Democrats participated in a state-run primary, where the AP declared President Joe Biden the winner at 8:05 p.m. MT. Results from the state party-run GOP presidential preference poll took longer. The AP called the race for Donald Trump at 1:39 a.m. Wednesday.

Voters will need to show up in person at neighborhood Republican caucuses on March 5 to choose their presidential nominee this year — unless they have a friend willing to deliver an absentee ballot for them.

Some Republicans are casting doubt on their convention nominee Celeste Maloy. Meanwhile, Democrats say they’re working ahead.

Maloy was victorious at the June 24 GOP special nominating convention but has faced questions about her candidacy.

“I’m your girl,” Maloy quipped after delegates in Utah’s 2nd Congressional District cast their special convention votes at Delta High School.

Gov. Spencer Cox is calling for the Legislature to approve moving municipal election dates to accommodate a special election to replace Utah U.S. Rep. Chris Stewart.

The Utah Legislature changed the special election policy in 2020 after former Utah Republican Rep. Jason Chaffetz resigned from the U.S. House. Now, it’s considering changing it again.

Young voters broke heavily for Democrats in 2022, even in deep-red Utah.
