Longtime KUER classical music host and Salt Lake City actor Gene Pack died over the weekend. Many called the 86-year-old Pack an icon in the local arts community.

This week we’ll launch some new programs that will debut on KUER. The majority of these programs will be added as a result of our decision to discontinue jazz music programming. Readers of The Salt Lake Tribune and listeners to Steve Williams’ jazz program already know about the change to the jazz music format. We’ve responded by e-mail or phone to everyone who has contacted us directly, and have reached out to some people who posted Facebook comments and messages as well.

Crews poured the concrete foundation for the new KUHU transmitter tower at Abajo Peak near Monticello on July 15. The new tower will be bigger, better, and stronger than the tower we previously used in the area which will ultimately lead to much better long-term reliability of our signal in Southeast Utah.

The Takeaway

In March 2013, NPR announced that it would end production of Talk of the Nation (TOTN) as of June 28, 2013. Since then, KUER has actively researched potential replacements for this much loved program. While we'll miss Talk of the Nation, our new midday lineup features some of the best shows in public media.
