Salt Lake City, UT – At 2:48 a.m. August 6, 2007, the Crandall Canyon coal mine near Huntington, Utah collapsed, trapping six miners. Rescue efforts claimed another three men and in the ensuing months, the catastrophe spurred Congressional hearings and re-launched a national debate about mine safety. On Wednesday, Doug talks with Richard Stickler, chief of the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), Salt Lake Tribune reporter Robert Gehrke, and others about the lessons learned one year after the tragedy.
