Salt Lake City, Utah – The War on Terror is often confused as a war against Islam. The scholar Reza Aslan says infusing political conflicts with religious symbolism creates a cosmic war, a war between good and evil that no one can win. He argues that the only way to combat violent religious extremism is to strip away religious connotations and address the actual grievances. On Friday, Aslan joins us to talk about his ideas for countering jihadism and promoting democracy in the Middle East and beyond.

  • On Monday, October 25, Reza Aslan will give the University of Utah's 2010 Sterling M McMurrin Lecture on Religion and Culture. The event is free, and begins at 7:00 p.m. at the Salt Lake City Public Library. For more information, click here
