State Street Renovation Nears Completion

Officials from the Utah Department of Transportation and two Utah cities gathered to mark progress on a renovation of State Street in South Salt Lake County.

Midvale Mayor JoAnn Seghini and Murray Mayor Dan Snarr together marked the near completion of the project by cutting a blue ribbon tied between two orange construction cones. The 13.5 million dollar renovation of State Street between 64th to 80th South will officially be finished on October 11th. New sidewalks, improved drainage, and widening the road to seven lanes were among the major changes to the 2.1 miles of road. Mayor Seghini says this project will have a lasting impact on her city.

“It means that businesses can now have an opportunity to be more successful. It means that people can walk on a sidewalk and be out of traffic," she says. "It means that there will not be flooding in homes or neighborhoods or in front of businesses. It means an upgrade in the whole look at our community.”

Jason Davis is the UDOT Region Two Director. He says this project will make a big difference for traffic flow.

“You look at State Street throughout, really the entire Wasatch Front, for sure through the Salt Lake Valley. And this was the piece that was missing,” he says.

Pedestrian ramps and energy efficient street lights were also installed as part of the project.
