Salt Lake City, UT – From Vincent Van Gogh to Jackson Pollock, more than a few artists over the generations have grappled with mental illness. The incidence of serious psychiatric illness in successful artists is indeed high -- higher than the rest of the population. But art can also be healing for many with psychiatric disorders. Through next Wednesday, the Women's Art Center is hosting an exhibit, "Visions and Voices, featuring Utah artists with mental illness. Today and tomorrow morning, KUER's Jenny Brundin profiles two artists in the exhibit who've found that art is fostering their recovery. Today, she profiles Salt Lake artist Sasha Gorham.

The exhibition runs through September 20th at the Women's Art Center, 345 Pierpont Avenue in downtown Salt Lake City. It's also part of the monthly gallery stroll this Friday.
