John Cleese, Snap Judgment Among New Lineup Of Shows Coming To Eccles Theater
A new lineup of live shows at the Eccles Theater in downtown Salt Lake City was announced on Friday.
Since its opening last fall, nearly every show at the Eccles Theater has sold out. Chris Mautz, who books and promotes shows for the Eccles, counts that as a success.
"Just the support of the wide variety of offerings was gratifying," Mautz says. "It gave us a sense of what we thought was possible looking at another collection of unique and interesting titles."
The Eccles was built as a Broadway-style theater, but Mautz says he saw an opportunity for entertainment when a Broadway tour wasn’t in town. Eleven shows were announced Friday for a new season beginning this fall, including comedy, conversation and music.
"Highlights certainly would be the classic rock shows: The Doobie Brothers (Sept. 26) and Huey Lewis & The News (Oct. 19)," Mautz says.
"The Steve Martin and Martin Short tour (Aug. 27) has been getting incredible reviews all around the country, so having that at the Eccles Theater will be stunning," he says.
Public radio nerds, rejoice. Snap Judgment will be at the Eccles October 27 for a live show in partnership with KUER.
"It’s been exciting to see a lot of that NPR and public radio programming continue to grow in the live setting," says Mautz. "I think Snap Judgment will be exciting to see again in Salt Lake live."
Other shows include Grammy award-winning jazz singer-songwriter Gregory Porter (Nov. 6) and Bright Eyes front man Conor Oberst (Oct. 1).
A screening of "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" will precede conversation and Q&A with comedian John Cleese on Nov. 19.
Tickets go on sale Friday, June 9th at 10 a.m. Click here for a full show lineup.
