Utah Election Day 2022 Senate results between Mike Lee and Evan McMullin

Senate race 2022, Sen. Mike Lee and Evan McMullin
US Senate, McMullin for Utah Campaign
Republican Sen. Mike Lee, left, and political independent challenger Evan McMullin.

Utah's Senate race has evolved from a heavily favored Republican victory to one where the incumbent, Sen. Mike Lee, had started to show some worry regarding independent challenger Evan McMullin. Lee, who is seeking his second term, was a one-time critic of former President Donald Trump who has evolved into a staunch supporter. McMullin hopes to harness Utah's unease with Trump to claim the Senate seat — giving Utah a more moderate conservative senator alongside Sen. Mitt Romney. The state's Democrats didn't field a Senate candidate this election cycle, instead throwing party support behind McMullin rather than splitting the anti-Lee vote.
