The Utah State Capitol is shown Wednesday, March 7, 2018, in Salt Lake City.

In Utah, Republicans hold every statewide office, all four seats in the U.S. House of Representatives and supermajorities in the state House and Senate.

The state has seen dramatic growth, like many Western states, but the influx of new residents hasn't shifted the political mores of the electorate. The state's politics are heavily connected with the predominant religion, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Most of Utah's population and a vast majority of its politicians are members of the faith.

Polls in Utah close at 8 p.m. Mountain. KUER, like NPR, relies on race calls from The Associated Press.
