The Economy, Explained: ‘Planet Money’ Joins KUER’s Summer Schedule

Jun 22, 2020

News about the economy is more essential — and complicated — than ever. To help unpack and analyze how the pandemic is shaping our financial lives, KUER is bringing Planet Money to our Saturday lineup. This 30-minute version of NPR’s popular weekday series finds creative, entertaining ways to make sense of the big, complicated forces that move our economy.

Planet Money will air Saturdays at 3 p.m. starting June 27. At 3:30, another new program — How I Built This — finds host Guy Raz diving into the stories behind some of the world's best-known companies.

The tough economic climate has left an impact on the public radio world, with several shows ending production or changing distributors. That impact can be felt amid some of the changes on KUER’s summer program schedule. Here’s a summary of what’s happening, effective June 27:

  • Live From Here has ended production. KUER will air reruns of the program this summer in a later time slot, Saturday evenings from 8-10 p.m.
  • The long-running sports program, Only a Game, is ending production and will be replaced with an additional play of The New Yorker Radio Hour (Saturdays at 5 a.m. and Sundays at 12 noon).
  • Selected Shorts and Innovation Hub will leave the KUER program schedule.
  • It’s Been a Minute With Sam Sanders and Bullseye will move to Saturdays at 6 and 7 p.m., respectively
  • A one-hour, encore version of 1A will air weeknights at 9 p.m. Two programs that currently air in this time slot will move to Sundays: Reveal (7 p.m.) and Latino USA (5 a.m. and 9 p.m.)
