The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is moving to excommunicate a Mormon for using his podcast to challenge Church doctrines.

For nearly a decade, John Dehlin has been producing his podcast Mormon Stories from his home in North Logan.  Now Dehlin is facing the possibility of excommunication from the LDS Church for questioning Church teachings and principles through his podcast.

Dehlin announced on his website Thursday that he received a letter from his Stake President and Bishop summoning him to a disciplinary hearing later this month. Dehlin is being charged with apostasy. He believes he will either be censured or excommunicated.

LDS Church spokesman Eric Hawkins said in statement that Church officials won’t publically discuss why a member may face discipline.

Dehlin has publicly supported same-sex marriage on his podcast. He also defended Ordain Women founder Kate Kelly who was excommunicated from the Church last year and he supports the idea of women holding the priesthood in the Church. Dehlin’s disciplinary hearing is scheduled for January 25th at the North Logan Stake Center.
