USU also announced that associate VP/deputy athletic director of external affairs Jerry Bovee and football director of player development and community Austin Albrecht were fired “for violations of university policies related to the reporting of sexual and domestic violence and failures of professional responsibilities.”

During a special legislative session, lawmakers approved two resolutions that could jeopardize federal education funding.

The new rules officially broaden the interpretation of Title IX to include gay and transgender students. The changes conflict with Utah’s new bathroom access law and have already prompted the state to sue.

The governor said it’s “important to protect women and children in private spaces” while defending the rollout of a law that restricts transgender people from using the bathroom that aligns with their gender identity.

The Oct. 11 walkout was organized by the Black Menaces, an activist group started at Brigham Young University known for their viral TikToks, and the Religious Exemption Accountability Project.
