Republican Rep. Chris Stewart will serve another term in Utah’s 2nd Congressional District. Early voting numbers showed the incumbent Congressman Stewart leading Democratic challenger Charlene Albarran by about 30%.

In a victory speech Tuesday night, Stewart told his Republican supporters that he looks forward to another term in the U.S. House where he can advocate for Utahns.

“If you care about creating jobs for the younger generation, if you care about tax reform, if you care about entitlement reform or regulatory reform, tonight is the night we can start to make those changes. We couldn’t do it without you,” Stewart said.

Stewart’s Democratic opponent Charlene Albarran conceded the race shortly after midnight. Albarran told KUER she plans to start a non-profit organization to deal with issues that were central to her campaign: domestic violence, homelessness, and affordable college, among others.

“And so now, I will not only be standing up for democratic values, I will be standing up for the issues that the people want, and I will stand up for them,” she said.

Albarran said she is proud of the campaign she ran and looks forward to serving Utahns in a different capacity.
