Salt Lake City’s municipal golf courses are on track to generate $2.2 million more in revenue this year. The surge in Utah golf rounds will help fund upgrades with less taxpayer support.

A 12.5% increase to the city’s portion of property tax, along with utility rate hikes, is included in Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall’s new fiscal year budget proposal. Some residents question whether the needed money could be found elsewhere in the budget.

The agency has been buying warehouses across the country for massive new detention centers. Previous rumors of a detention center in Salt Lake City were met with protests and outcry from city and county mayors.

Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall said the city has improved ”the pieces of the system that we control,” and the Legislature now needs to take action to help.

“Los Tapatios, London Belle, White Horse and Whiskey Street are at the heart of what Salt Lake City’s downtown vibe is,” said Mayor Erin Mendenhall. “And I think there’s a lot of tears being shared among Salt Lakers that see the devastating damage here.”

Mayor Erin Mendenhall said Salt Lake City has made “tremendous progress” on its safety plan, but she’s disappointed that the Legislature hasn’t acted on more recommendations.

Salt Lake City Police have confirmed that one individual is hospitalized with critical injuries while three others, one with a gunshot wound, are in custody. The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
